techNL Launches Scale-up Hub: Houston for Atlantic Canada Energy and Clean Tech Sectors

TechNL together with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Global Affairs Canada, and various provincial partners, has announced the initiation of the Scale-up Hub: Houston program. This innovative program is designed to assist high-growth energy tech and clean tech companies from Atlantic Canada in scaling their export sales and establishing a foothold in the strategic Houston market.

Program Overview: The Scale-up Hub: Houston program aims to support Atlantic Canada-based companies that are focused on energy technology and clean technology. It offers a pathway to build international presence through targeted access to one of the most dynamic markets in the U.S. that is increasingly focusing on sustainable operations and renewable energy forms.

Opportunities Provided by the Program:

  • Business Development: Companies will benefit from the dedicated services of in-market business development professionals who will provide strategic advice and a deep understanding of the energy sector, including operational firms and supply chain stakeholders.
  • Workspace and Networking: Participants will have access to a shared workspace at the ION Centre in Houston, Texas, and the opportunity to attend up to two dedicated in-market events. These events include receptions with local businesses, business-to-business meetings, and venture capitalist pitch events.
  • Capital Market Access: The program also facilitates connections to capital markets, including venture capitalists and angel investors, crucial for companies looking to scale.

Eligibility and Application: The program is open to technology-focused, high-growth companies within the energy and clean tech verticals that are currently selling outside of Atlantic Canada. Interested companies should note that there is a non-refundable participation fee of $2645 CAD. Up to ten companies will be accepted into the ten-month program.

Application Deadline: The deadline for applications is set for April 26, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. NDT. Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the Scale-up Hub Houston Guidelines for detailed program information and to contact the project lead or their provincial representative for further assistance.

This initiative represents a pivotal step for Atlantic Canadian companies in the energy and clean tech sectors, providing them with the resources and support necessary to compete on a global scale.
