The University of New Brunswick has announced that Kathryn Lockhart will join as the new Executive Director of the McKenna Institute, effective November 10, 2025.
Lockhart brings extensive experience in early-stage technology and innovation leadership. As the current CEO of Propel, Atlantic Canada’s digital accelerator, she supports over 110 companies across the region , empowering founders and fostering a vibrant startup ecosystem. She also serves as the Managing Partner at WEL Atlantic (Women’s Equity Lab), where she champions women-led startups, and is a member of the International Women’s Foundation.
Her previous leadership roles include Vice-President of Growth and Corporate Strategy at JVP Labs, a MedTech startup, and various strategic positions in Europe and across Canada. A graduate of Harvard Business School, Lockhart is also a proud alumna of UNB’s Renaissance College, now the School of Leadership Studies.
“Her deep experience, collaborative spirit, and commitment to innovation make her the ideal leader to build on the strong foundation already in place,” said Paul J. Mazerolle, President and Vice-Chancellor of UNB. “I’m excited to see how Kathryn will continue the institute’s momentum and take it to new heights.”
Lockhart succeeds Adrienne O’Pray, who has led the McKenna Institute since 2021 and will transition from her role in early 2026. O’Pray’s leadership advanced the institute’s vision for digital transformation across New Brunswick, launching major initiatives in artificial intelligence, digital health, education, and agriculture.
Founded by Frank McKenna, the Institute continues to drive innovation and inclusive growth throughout New Brunswick and beyond. With Kathryn Lockhart at the helm, it is well-positioned to strengthen its mission of advancing digital transformation and empowering communities across the province.
