Member Spotlight: Abenaki Associates

For more than 40 years, Abenaki Associates has been helping First Nations communities, businesses, and organizations across Canada strengthen their operations through software solutions, consulting services, training, and capacity development.

Founded in 1984 by Percy Barnaby, Carol Ann Barnaby, and Michelle Poirier, Abenaki was the first company to introduce Sage 300 to First Nations communities in Canada. Since then, the team has delivered more than 60,000 hours of training and over 100,000 hours of support to finance departments nationwide, helping communities build stronger financial management practices and improve service delivery.

Today, more than 85% of First Nations communities use Sage 300 for financial management, and Abenaki continues to be a trusted partner in that success. The company develops innovative software solutions, including its First Nations Management Suite, while providing training in Sage 300, Microsoft Office, project management, and other essential business tools. They also support Sage 50 and Sage Intacct product lines.

Following the passing of Carol Ann Barnaby in 2019 and Percy Barnaby in 2020, the company continues to be led by Michelle Poirier and Peter Barnaby, carrying forward the founders’ vision of supporting First Nations communities through technology, knowledge sharing, and capacity building.

Abenaki also participated in TechImpact's Digital Boost 3.0 program, reflecting the organization's ongoing commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in the services it provides to communities across Canada.
