The Intro to Tech in NB program is an initiative led by TechImpact in partnership with Envision Saint John, and the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick Newcomer Connections program. The program is designed to bridge the gap between job seekers and New Brunswick’s growing tech industry by providing structured training, hands-on coaching, and direct employer engagement. Participants receive career support, attend networking events, and connect with hiring professionals, all at no cost.
For Anderson Kistner, technology has always been a passion. Originally from Brazil, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems from Universidade de São Paulo and has built his career in data engineering, cloud computing, and software development.
To strengthen his skill set and transition into the Canadian job market, Anderson pursued additional certifications in data science, SQL, and Python while completing a Diploma in Administrative Professional Studies at New Brunswick Community College. Equipped with a strong technical background and a commitment to continuous learning, he was eager to explore opportunities in New Brunswick’s tech sector.
Embracing the Newcomer Journey
When Anderson moved to New Brunswick, he was excited to explore how his experience and skills could contribute to the local tech industry. Like many newcomers, he was learning how to navigate a new job market and understand what local employers were looking for.
He soon realized that simply applying online wasn’t always enough, he needed to tailor his approach and connect more directly with the community.
The Turning Point: TechImpact’s Intro to Tech in NB
Through the Intro to Tech in NB program, Anderson learned about the many resources available to help newcomers succeed in the tech field. The program helped him refine his job search strategy and build confidence in how to present his experience.
“It was only after the program that I truly understood the nuances of job searching in the local market. As someone coming from abroad, it’s challenging to devise an effective strategy when you’re unfamiliar with what the industry values. The TechImpact course helped me realize why my previous approach wasn’t working as well as I’d hoped.” – Anderson
Here’s what made the biggest impact:
- Resume and LinkedIn Optimization – He adjusted his resume and online presence to highlight in-demand skills like cloud computing, data engineering, and analytics in a way that resonated with employers.
- One-on-One Interview Coaching – He practiced both technical and behavioral interview strategies, ensuring he could confidently articulate his experience.
- Networking & Employer Connections – He attended the Tech Job Fair hosted by Envision Saint John through the Intro to Tech in NB Program, met industry professionals, and learned how to leverage referrals and direct engagement to stand out.
- Industry Insights – He gained a deeper understanding of New Brunswick’s tech ecosystem and identified companies hiring for data-related roles.
Most importantly, Anderson recognized that building connections and approaching the job search strategically were just as important as having the right technical skills.
