Written by CollabHub | Jan 15, 2026 5:15:59 PM

A research colloquium will take place on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (AST) at the University of New Brunswick Saint John, bringing together scholars to explore timely research on leadership, gender, and startup governance.

The event will be held in person in HWK107 (Potash Room, Library Building) and will also be available via Zoom, allowing participants to join in the way that works best for them. Coffee and snacks will be served during the presentations.

The colloquium will feature two engaging research sessions:

1. Female Managers, Women’s Employment, and Gendered Laws (10:30 am – 11:15 am)

The first session will be presented by Thu Hang Nguyen, Associate Professor in Finance at the Foreign Trade University (Ho Chi Minh City Campus). Her research examines how female leadership influences women’s employment, workplace benefits, and gender equity, drawing on global data from the World Bank Enterprise Survey.

2. Do Founders Care? Governance Practices and Maturity in Early-Stage, Pre-Series A, Private Equity Startups (11:30 am – 12:15 pm)

The second session will be presented by Daniel Doiron, Senior Teaching Associate in Business Strategy and Entrepreneurship, and Gregory Fleet, Associate Professor of Digital Business Design, both from UNB Saint John. Their presentation explores governance awareness and practices among early-stage startups in Atlantic Canada and highlights how improved governance can reduce risk and support long-term growth.

The colloquium is open to the public, and everyone with an interest in research, leadership, gender equity, or entrepreneurship is welcome to attend. Individuals who are not members of the Faculty of Business are asked to RSVP to Ms. Patricia Chisholm (pchishol@unb.ca) by noon on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Those requiring a parking pass should mention this in their RSVP.
