To help individuals advance their careers, the Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre, in partnership with Lighthouse Labs, is offering offer transformative essential skills training courses on teamwork, collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking in the workplace.
This training is available at no cost to eligible applicants thanks to the ICT Boost Initiative - a program funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program (SWSP).
Eligible participants must be:
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Currently residing in Canada
- A Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
- Legally entitled to work in Canada (According to the relevant provincial and federal legislation and regulations)
Salary negotiation takes practice and preparation. Join their session to learn some practical tips on how to advocate for yourself with some conflict resolution and negotiating strategies. You will also get some tips on what to do when you receive a job offer.
In this course, participants will:
- Evaluate which of the five conflict styles they use most frequently
- Practice using a competitive style when discussing salary and other elements of compensation
- Apply collaborative strategies to move ongoing conflicts forward or stall blocked negotiations
- Discuss key resources for researching common market value for various occupations
- Roleplay counteroffers when a salary offered is too low
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate.
